Technical Specifications

Measurements:

  • Speeds are shown to the nearest tenth of a kph (mph) below 100 kph (mph), and to the nearest kph (mph) above 100 kph (mph).
  • Timing distance is shown to the nearest cm below 1m, and to the nearest cm at 1m and above. In imperial mode, the result is calculated in the same way, and the result is converted to inches. Below 100 inches the result is shown in tenths of an inch, and for 100 inches and above, to the nearest inch. Full precision is conserved throughout the conversion process.
  • Time measurement resolution is now 500µs. Distance resolution is 1cm.
  • Speed range is approx 40mph (50kph) to 130mph (160kph), assuming average anthropometric factor.
  • Power consumption is approx 700µA.

Technical Features:

  • Advanced surface-mount assembly, using miniaturised components, makes Gee-Swing™ small, light and extremely robust.
  • State-of-the-art RISC processor executes up to 2 million instructions every second.
  • Unprecedented accuracy – can detect precise time of impact between club head and ball to within 500 millionths of a second.
  • Internal clock is accurate to better than 0.0003 seconds over the swing duration.
  • Analyses swing profile by using data collected from up to 200 points during a typical swing.
  • Calculates distance travelled by club head between end of acceleration and impact to within one inch, even when the club head is travelling at over 100 mph.
  • Results displayed on custom LCD display, specially developed to meet the challenging specification of this product.
  • Uses a purpose-developed, high precision acceleration sensor, combined with super-sensitive electronics, to detect sensor movements as small as 5 thousandths of a millimetre, and yet is robust enough to measure up to 180g, and can withstand much more.
  • Exceptional battery life due to advanced power-saving techniques.
  • Auto Power Off: After two minutes of inactivity.
  • Highly advanced software ensure almost instantaneous results, with unprecedented precision.
  • Every unit is individually tested and calibrated using a purpose-built and highly sophisticated computer-controlled centrifuge to guarantee maximum accuracy.
  • High-strength casing with integral silicone sealing technology ensures long, reliable service life in a wide range of environmental conditions.
  • Flexible, rugged clamp mechanism ensures reliable operation and easy fitting to all standard club sizes and shaft materials.
  • Gee-Swing™ is the result of over 6 years research and development, and represents the most advanced product of its type currently available.

Drag

We have calculated the effect of the mass of the Gee-Swing™ on club head speed, and have arrived at the following conclusion:

If the mass of the club head is increased, and the applied force is also increased in order to maintain the same club head speed, there will be a proportional increase in the kinetic energy.

If the mass of the club head is increased, and the applied force is kept constant, the acceleration will be reduced, resulting in a reduction of club head speed, but there will be no change in the kinetic energy.

Put into simple terms, the extra weight of the Gee-Swing™ on the club will cause the club head speed to reduce, but at the same time the extra weight will cause the energy transferred to the ball to increase. The extra mass exactly cancels out the reduced speed.
